The department

Our department of urology treats all urinary tract pathologies. The main specialties are:

Oncology

Oncology is one of the strong points of the service. All urological cancers are treated here, whether it be prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, testicle cancer, or the rarest forms of tumours. Our department is a certified expert centre for urological oncology. More than half of our activity is dedicated to treating urological tumours.

We cooperate with several departments of oncology and radiotherapy for tumours that require a multidisciplinary approach. Each week, the files of patients under treatment for cancer are discussed in the presence of the entire team of medical oncologists, radiation therapists, radiologists, and pathologists. These multidisciplinary consultative meetings allow us to define a personalised healthcare treatment, with the aim of providing the least invasive treatment possible, avoiding in particular the over-treatment of tumours that are less aggressive.

For each type of tumour, we use conventional approaches, but also more innovative techniques, particularly for prostate cancer: brachytherapy or focal treatment.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia

Our department is also quite invested in the treatment of this pathology, which is extremely common in the general population. Like for cancer, numerous treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia are available:

  • Conventional or bipolar resection
  • Laser vaporization
  • Prostatic urethral lift implants (Urolift®)
  • Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HOLEP)

Urinary lithiasis

For kidney and ureteral stones, we use all current minimally-invasive procedures (lithotripsy, laser ureteroscopy, or percutaneous surgery).

Pelvic floor dysfunction

Pelvic floor disorders can include urinary incontinence and/or genitourinary prolapse. Numerous procedures are available to treat incontinence, whether it be for men (sub-urethral sling, periurethral balloons, or artificial urinary sphincter) or for women. To treat prolapses, we perform surgery through conventional, laparoscopic, or sometimes vaginal approaches. We handle difficult cases of over-active bladder, and offer botulinum toxin injections as well as sacral neuromodulation.
